QLD Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, the Hon Kate Jones, MP expressed her support for the concept of Citizen Littering Reports when she met with No BuTTs Managing Director, Jack Jacobson at the Going Green Expo currently underway in Brisbane.
Ms Jones noted that her office is receiving increasing requests by Queenslanders via the recently posted link at
http://www.nobutts.com.au/Queensland-no-citizen-litter-reporting-action.html
Queensland is currently the only State in Australia where concerned members of the public cannot submit Citizen Littering reports when they see others littering. In most cases this relates to people seen littering cigarette butts from vehicles.
We're pleased to report that the Minister was very enthusiastic about the concept and instructed her Chief of Staff, to follow up with No BuTTs for additional information on this progressive environmental initiative.
In the meantime, if you live in QLD and detest people littering their butts as much as we hate it too, visit the link above and let the Govt know that you also support the ability to report butt litterers. In this day and age it's simply unacceptable for people to litter their butts. Soon, when you see someone doing it from their vehicle, you'll be able to do something about.
Even if these environmental vandals (we now call them 'Ash-holes') don't actually get fined, a terse letter from the relevant authourities is most likely going to result in drastic change in their littering habits - and the reason is simple: They know people are watching. It works in every other State - and it can and will work in Queensland too. That's good for all and great for the environment.
We'll keep our readers updated on this important issue as new information becomes available.
